The Day of Your LASIK Surgery

Our staff will do whatever it takes to make your stay at our clinic as comfortable as possible.

On the Morning of Surgery
Please do not use make-up or perfume. This is a prerequisite for the eye surgery. You should not have worn your contact lenses for the last two weeks prior to surgery.

Our staff will do whatever it takes to make your stay at our clinic as comfortable as possible.

If you come in, our receptionist greets our patients. She examines the paperwork one more time.

Another corneal topography photo is taken.
In addition, a short eye examination is performed by one of our doctors. After that, patients are taken to the pre-operative area.

Here, anesthetic eye drops will be applied. Our assistant Mrs. Schuster helps the patients into a surgical gown, cap and slippers. A nurse explains each one of the next steps

Later In the operating room, Mrs. Bernert, the surgical nurse is preparing the instruments. The equipment is checked again.

The operation begins. The patients feel a slight pressure, but no pain. While the surgeon treats the eye with the precision scalpel (LASIK) or femtosecond laser (Femto-LASIK), it seems to be getting dark. Then it appears to be light again, as now the excimer laser is treating the eye.

After approximately five minutes, the procedure is finished. The surgeon checks the result of his surgery with a special light, and puts more antibiotic eye drops in the eyes. Finally, both eyes are covered with a skin friendly bandage to protect them from any environmental impurities.

Mrs. Schuster accompanies the patients out of the operation room to the foyer of the clinic. She explains the content of the “ALZ post-op set”. This contains everything patients will need for the first few days: eye drops, very attractive sunglasses (non prescription), post-surgery instructions, and the phone numbers to reach our doctors, around the clock, with any questions or concerns.

“See you tomorrow!” The first post-op check-up will take place on the day after surgery, at which time the bandages will be removed.
