Post-op Care after LASIK
On the day of LASIK surgery, you will make appointments for a series of postoperative
check-ups. Depending on the type of surgical procedure, 5 to 10 appointments
will be necessary. It is also possible to arrange to have these check-ups
with your primary ophthalmologist or optometrist.
The clear eye bandage will be removed at the first postoperative check-up
on the day after surgery. Please take special care that when washing or
showering, no water enters the eye. Be careful not to rub your eye or
put on eye make-up under any circumstances for the first week after LASIK
surgery.
The postoperative treatment itself depends on the type of procedure.
Generally, it consists of applying eye drops over a limited period of
time. Your cooperation as a patient is extremely important. Please carefully
follow any instructions you received from your ophthalmologist and keep
all appointments for postoperative check-ups. Should any problems arise,
please consult your attending ophthalmologist immediately. Postoperative
treatment with medication (such as eye drops containing cortisone used
especially after PRK) requires regular check-ups in order to avoid any
undesired side effects.
You will regain close to normal vision as early as the day following
LASIK surgery, but may experience some fluctuations in your vision, within
the first weeks. Your vision should reach its final stability within 6
to 8 weeks after surgery.
Physical activities and exercise, tanning beds, saunas and swimming should
be avoided for 1 - 2 weeks after surgery. Other than that, just relax
and do whatever pleases you!
