The Acrysof Cachet and Verisyse LensesAn intraocular lens is a microscopic lens that can be placed inside your eye in order to correct certain vision problems or conditions of the eye. The most common type of intraocular lens is one that is implanted in your eye when you have the natural lens in your eye removed during cataract surgery (lens exchange). For patients who are extremely nearsighted and may have contraindications to LASIK, the Acrysof Cachet or Verisyse lenses may offer an effective option for correcting their vision while maintaining normal focusing ability. Both of these lenses may be implanted between iris and cornea, in an anatomical area called the anterior chamber. When an anterior chamber lens is implanted, it is possible to leave the eye’s natural lens intact. This allows for uninterrupted focusing from near to far, a process called accommodation. Anterior chamber lenses used today are made of plastic polymer that has been successfully used in eye surgery for over 50 years. It has been proven to be especially safe and compatible with the natural environment of the eye. Before the procedure, the surgeon determines the optimum position on the iris, where the lens will be attached. A diamond knife is then used to make a 5mm incision in the surface of the eye. The artificial lens is then inserted into the anterior chamber between the cornea and iris and attached by tiny fasteners at the previously marked point of the iris. We invite you to view a simulation of this surgical procedure. |
